Ask AI to generate music or a sound when the edit needs something unique. When Library already contains a suitable sound, preview and drag it to the timeline instead. Audio from either path can be moved, trimmed, and mixed like a regular clip.
What do I need before writing the prompt?
- First check Library → Sound Effects for a suitable supplied sound. Generate only when you need something unique.
- For music, decide the mood, genre, instruments, tempo, target duration, and whether vocals are allowed.
- If you want vocals, prepare or approve original lyrics and decide the language, structure, singing direction, and optional voice preference. A generic request for “music” or “soundtrack” does not assume vocals; the Agent asks which path you want.
- For sound effects, decide the source, action, environment, intensity, listening distance, and duration.
- To synchronize with the picture, plan to use
@for a clip or exact time. You may also prepare a rhythm or style reference without asking to copy a protected work.
Prompts you can copy
Generate 30 seconds of instrumental background music for @product-demo: modern electronic, steady rhythm, positive but not overexcited. Fade in at 00:04 and leave a natural fade at the end.
Create an eight-second audio logo for @interview-intro using warm piano and a soft synthesizer, with no drums. Hold the final chord for one second so it can lead into dialogue.
Create an original mid-tempo indie-pop theme song with warm vocals, acoustic guitar, and strings. Use the approved [Verse] and [Chorus] lyrics below. Keep the verse intimate and let the chorus open up.
Generate and add a 0.8-second close, metallic latch sound at the action in @door-shot. Make it clean and slightly heavy, without environmental reverb.
Generate with AI
- Use
@to identify the clip, range, or action point the audio should support. - Enter the music or sound description and send it. Check the estimate if a confirmation appears.
- Follow progress in My Assets.
- Drag the completed audio to the target audio track. If the prompt specified placement, ChatCut can place it on the timeline directly.
- Select the audio clip to adjust its start, length, and volume on the timeline and in the Inspector.
For a vocal song, confirm the lyrics before generation. ChatCut creates one new original song asset per request; it does not remix or clean up an existing recording, and exact lyric timestamps or beat alignment are not guaranteed. Generate first, then place, trim, fade, and synchronize the result on the timeline.
Add a supplied sound effect manually
- Open Library → Sound Effects in the media panel.
- Search or select a card to preview the sound.
- Drag it to the target time on an audio track.
- It becomes a regular audio clip that you can move, trim, and mix.
AI music and sound generation use credits. Supplied Library sounds do not need to be generated again. Use the estimate before generation and the completed entry under Credits History → Detail as the source of truth.
